Droplets on lubricated surfaces: The slow dynamics of skirt formation

چکیده
A key question in the interaction of droplets with lubricated and liquid-infused surfaces is what determines apparent contact angle droplets. Previous work has determined this using measured values geometry `skirt' -- meniscus-like deformation that forms around base deposited droplet. Here, we consider theoretically equilibrium a droplet on smooth, impermeable lubricant-coated surface, argue small effect gravity within skirt size substrate are important for determining final equilibrium. However, also show evolution towards ultimate extremely slow (on order days typical experimental parameter values). We therefore suggest previous experiments smooth may have observed only slowly-evolving transients, rather than `true' equilibria, potentially explaining why wide range sizes been reported.

Oleoplaning droplets on lubricated surfaces
Recently, there has been much interest in using lubricated surfaces to achieve extreme liquid repellency: a foreign droplet immiscible with the underlying lubricant layer was shown to slide o at a small tilt angle<5. This behaviour was hypothesized to arise from a thin lubricant overlayer film sandwiched between the droplet and solid substrate, but this has not been observed experimentally. Her...
متن کاملDynamics of nanoscale droplets on moving surfaces.
We use molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the dynamic wetting of nanoscale water droplets on moving surfaces. The density and hydrogen bonding profiles along the direction normal to the surface are reported, and the width of the water depletion layer is evaluated first for droplets on three different static surfaces: silicon, graphite, and a fictitious superhydrophobic surface. ...
متن کاملexperimental and theoretical study of the dynamics of surface evaporation of water droplets on different surfaces
in this paper, the dynamics of evaporation of water droplets on surfaces with different contact angle hysteresis is studied experimentally and theoretically. the evaporation of water droplets on surfaces usually occurs in three distinct stages, namely the constant contact area mode, followed by the constant contact angle mode, and the mixed mode in which both contact angle and contact area are ...

The object of this paper is to study the effects of lubricant film flow, pressurized and sheared between two parallel rough surfaces in sliding motion. The influence of microscopic surface roughness on lubricant film flow macroscopic behavior is described through five nondimensional parameters called flow factors. These macroscopic transport parameters are related to the local geometry of apert...
